CommonFood began in 2012 as a service project, and in 2018 a 501(c)(3) was formed to better serve the community. The end of August we were able to purchase a building in Port Matilda we now call our 'packing center' close to our distribution site, which has now increased food distribution to Monday and Thursday evenings each week, and our large distribution taking place the 3rd Saturday of each month. Our monthly distribution is currently serving 200 families, with children over 500+ individuals. In 2024, CommonFood distributed approximately 264,800 pounds of food to families in the Centre County region which includes food that we pick up from local stores and give to various agencies helping others in need. "Think We not Me" has been generous in supplying us with locally grown produce when available.
We participate in the "Food Rescue" program organized by Feeding America and in doing so, during 2025 we picked up approximately 168,000 pounds of food which would have been dumped into local landfills. We would appreciate your help, still 100% volunteer but some increased cost to pay utilities and insurance ect. Thankyou!
